I work mainly on canvas with and acrylic paint, sometimes acrylic ink and other media. First I like to sketch to outline the bones of a painting, and then I define light and shade and try to create depth, using brush, pen and palette knife, anything to hand to create marks.
I am inspired by city landscapes for their angles, hardness, colours and shadows, and by rural hilly landscapes which change in nature according to time of day, season and weather conditions.
I attended Art College in the 1970’s and dabbled a bit with drawing and painting on and off over the years, in tandem with life and my day job as an accountant. However acute heart and kidney failure in 2009 and the removal of a tumour from my kidney in 2012 has made me take stock of what I really want to do, and I am now producing more art work than I have ever done.
